Remember, the Parker Mountain snowshoeing/winter sports trip will be January 14-15, 2006 (Martin Luther King weekend). The calendar from this fall says January 14-16, but it’s been shortened. If you haven’t turned in your permission slip, be sure to do it at the Court of Honor.
It’s especially important to be prepared for winter camping. Via Troop 119, here’s some good information on what to bring and how to keep warm and dry. Also, bring plenty of socks. Remember, COTTON KILLS! Use wool, polypropylene, fleece, and nylon — NOT jeans, cotton shirts, or cotton socks.
A warm sleeping bag is also important. If you don’t have one that’s warm enough for winter use, remember that equipment can be rented at REI. A lot of times equipment can also be borrowed from others in the Troop.
UPDATE 1/5:
The Parker Mountain trip is coming up in just 9 days and as yet we have very little idea how many will be coming. There will be sign-up forms at the Court of Honor (as well as on the attachment), so please turn one in tonight to me, or to Mike Healey. If you can’t make it to the CoH, please return me an e-mail saying if you are or are not coming,(or if you are coming, maybe.)
The Campout will feature winter camping, snowshoeing and ice fishing and maybe skating and cross-country skiing if the conditions are right for the first and enough people bring equipment for the second. The Troop will supply snowshoes for those who need them, as well as ice fishing stuff. There will be a display of the right winter gear at the Court of Honor, but if you have any questions, speak to me, Mr. Healey, Mr. Griffiths or the Scoutmaster.
Adults have fun on these trips too, so come along too.
