Here is the latest information on the new SPOKE Program for Scouts who are at least 14 years old. PLEASE NOTE that the program is limited to 20 Scouts per week (for the entire camp) and is first come first serve. The sooner we register, the better. Please respond to this email ASAP if you are interested so we can figure out our next steps. We can reserve spaces with a $25/scout deposit, but I will need to get the deposits in ASAP and the balance will still be due on March 2.

In the new SPOKE program, campers will go on two overnight treks throughout the week that will take them to the far reaches of the reservation and beyond – like spokes of a wheel. These spokes reach areas of beautiful and memorable sights that are not accessible to the average camper. Between each SPOKE trek, participants will stay with their troops in camp and share their experiences with the scouts and leaders. Then wrap up the week with an IRONMAN TRIATHALON including running, biking, and swimming all over camp!

The Spoke treks will include:

• Peaks ~ Climb as many mountains as you can in one trek!
• Mountain Biking ~ Explore the reservation on the camp’s mountain bikes!
• Rock Climbing ~ Spend an intense overnight trek at the cliffs!
• Kayaking ~ Navigate Lake Winnipesauke in sea kayaks for an island-hopping outpost!

What to Bring

• Daypack/Rucksack/Small frame pack
• Sleeping bag
• Water bottle(s) – 3 liters
• Pocket knife
• Light hiking/biking clothes and long pants
• Flashlight with new bulb & batteries
• Rain/wind jacket
• Sunscreen, bug repellent
• Sturdy, waterproof shoes or boots
• Swim suit
• Plastic/Tupperware bowl/mug and spoon
• Bread bags

Additional information:

• Scouts may attend SPOKE either week that Troop 160 is at summer camp.
• Scouts will need to rate the treks listed above from 1 (most interested in) to 4 (least interested in) on the registration form (link to the registration form is below). Two of the four activities will be selected based on which ones are most popular among the Scouts signed up for that week.
• SPOKE is limited to 20 Scouts per week.

The schedule for the week is:

• Sunday – Spend the day with your troop
• Monday – 9am report to SPOKE with overnight gear. Leave from SPOKE for your adventure through Tuesday.
• Tuesday – sometime shortly before dinner scouts should return to your unit. Spend the night with the unit.
• Wednesday – 9am report to SPOKE with overnight gear. Leave from SPOKE for your adventure through Thursday.
• Thursday – sometime shortly before dinner scouts should return to your unit. Spend the night with the unit.
• Friday – 9am report to SPOKE for a day of adventure, no overnight gear needed. Shortly before dinner return to your unit.
