CoH and Cookout — early call on relocation

We are not a wimpy troop. Rain does not scare us. On the other hand, some of the parents …

Seriously–this is a COH and we will have tons of paperwork lying around. And the Res is still pretty wet and buggy (I just walked around it) from the recent rains, and we don’t want to be running back and forth trying to guess the weather, and there is a prediction of thudershowers SO

I am making the call early. Let’s regroup and do it in the St Brigid parking lot. Same time–be there by 6 PM or so. COH will be in RFK.

I know–you hate these last minute changes … but I would rather make the call now even though that probably means the weather will be fine.

If you know people in the troop that are unlikely to read their e-mail, give ‘em a call if you have time.

Thanks,

-Hank

Rain or Shine, T160 Climbs!

June 10 found several scouts from T160 venturing on the rocky slopes of the Boston Rock Gym in Woburn. The soaking wet weather forced T160′s spring climbing day indoors. Eliot, Ray, Erik, and Chris learned and practiced climbing and belaying skills on the bouldering wall and the climbing walls of the Rock Gym. Eliot qualified for the Climbing merit badge. Cindy and Steve Silva, and Glen, Katie and Chris Bassett provided the supervision (and managed a bit of fun climbing themselves!).

The next climbing event is planned for October in the White Mountains – so practice those knots!

Three Scoutmaster announcements

Three items of general interest.

Flag Day

First–and this one sort of snuck up on me–Flag Day is Wednesday. That’s tomorrow (June 15). A flag will be raised at 7 PM on the Battle Green. Toss on a Class A shirt and join me. The ceremony is short. We always participate in this one. If it is windy, we may need a Scout or two to help with the flag.

Advancement Festival

This week (June 16) we will be finishing up odds and ends of advancement. For those who are finishing up First Class and below–bring your Scout Handbook. For those finishing merit badges, tell Joey and me about it so we can have a counselor on hand. We need JASMs and ASMs to help with requirements and to sit on BORs. And I suggest a Class A uniform, especially if you expect to have a Scoutmaster Conference or Board of Review.

Scoutmaster’s Picnic and COH

Remember that the final meeting of the year will be a picnic and COH, on June 23. A longer e-mail will follow and there will be an announcement at the meeting this Thursday. We need a couple of grills. We will start early–setup around 5:30 with food on the table by 6:00 PM. It will be held rain or shine, but in the event of shine, it will be at the Old Res.
