Cycling to the Cookoree

Troop 160,

I’ve heard some gossip that several scouts are interested in cycling out to the Cook-a-ree next weekend, but so far only one has actually told me that he wants to ride. Mr. Healy has said that he’ll come along, so unless a lot more scouts are coming, we’re covered for adults. If any more scouts (or adults) want to join in, please send me an e-mail or, at the very latest, let me know at the Thursday Troop meeting. We’ll ride regardless of the numbers.

The route is about 10 miles each way, and you’ll be able pack your gear into a car so you don’t have to haul it on your bike (unless you really want to). We can even accommodate some riders that only want to pedal one way.

A helmet is required, a water bottle is a good idea, a repair kit is useful but not necessary (I should be able to cover anything that might come up bike-wise). As always dress in layers for the weather with special attention to your fingers and toes (they can get pretty cold on a bike). We’ll meet at St. Brigid’s at 9:00 with the rest of the Troop. Feel free to send me any questions or comments.

The continuing Tom O. Eagle project

Hello Everyone,

This weekend, like many before, I will be continuing the work on my Eagle Project. Unlike the previous weekends I – with the help of many of you, it will be hopefully the last weekend of my project. So from 10am-4pm the continuation of the project will take place behind the First Baptist Church of Lexington (across the street from the police station). We will be finishing the construction of the retaining wall and the flowerbed, as well as doing the final planting and mulching of the area. Even if you don’t think you can come for the whole time, come for as much as you can, even an hour would be a big help. As always, lunch and snacks will be provided. I look foward to seeing as many of you this weekend as possible, if there are any questions, feel free to email me back, or call me.

- Tom O.
UPDATE:

Hi Everyone,

As I said at the meeting, a Scout is brave, however I don’t think it would be wise to try and do the project on Saturday. Therefore, the new day and time will be this Sunday the 29th from 1pm – 5pm. If there are any questions feel free to email me back or call me.

Thanks,

Tom O.

Another Eagle project session

Hello Everyone,

This weekend I will be again continuing my Eagle Project. However, for a change, instead of holding it on Saturday, it will be on Sunday. So come on down and help finish off the wall we’ve been building, and do some planting.
We will meet, as usual, behind the First Baptist Church of Lexington (across the street from the police station). It will be a grand old time, from 2-4pm. Since it will not be in the lunch time hours, lunch will not be provided, however snacks as always – will be made available. Look foward to seeing many of you there.

Cookeree Campout at Camp Acton, November 4-5

Attached is the flier and sign-up form for the annual Cookeree Campout. We are holding it, as last year, at Camp Acton in Acton, Mass. The campout has been a lot of fun for everyone in the past, particularly since we started producing a fancy feast in the outdoors. Lexington Webelos are our guests at this campout, so it would be great if the Scouts made a strong showing.

Even if they dont care to camp, parents should consider coming for the day to help with the cooking or to take a walk in the woods. Camp Acton is connected to conservation land that is part of the Bay Circuit Trail so there are several pleasant routes. And all Scout family members are very welcome to come for diner.

We are also looking for an adult volunteer to coordinate the desert cooking.
This will involve getting the ingredients together and supervising the prep cooks and bakers. Experienced advice about the job is available, and if you don’t know much about outdoor Dutch-oven cooking, you will know a lot more afterwards

Forms and checks can be given to me or Tad Coburn at scout meetings or mailed to me.

If you have questions, please feel free e-mail me or call me, or contact Tad.
