Come to Patriots’ Day Pancake Breakfast

Every year, Lexington Boy Scout Troop 160 hosts a Pancake Breakfast on Patriots Day. This breakfast is the only fund raising the troop does all year. The fantastic support from Lexington residents and all the visitors over the years has allowed the troop to grow to such a size that we spawned a second troop in Lexington, Troop 119. Both troops continue to grow in size. Scouting is alive and well in Lexington!

The funds from the pancake breakfast help keep the cost of scouting low. It allows us to make sure that all scouts are able to go to summer camp regardless of ability to pay.

Troop 160 wold like everyone to join us for a hearty breakfast at reasonable prices. We’ll be open April 16 starting officially at 5:30 am in Keilty Hall in the basement of St. Brigid’s Church (map). For those involved in the re-enactment or if you just can’t sleep, we will begin serving at 3:30 am. We’ll keep serving until 10:30 am so you don’t have to get up before dawn to enjoy a great meal. Please come.

UPDATE, 4/13: The weather is not co-operating this year. The town of Lexington has contingency plans which may involve canceling one or both parades and even possibly the re-enactment. In spite of this we have decided to do the breakfast RAIN OR SHINE.

New Scout campout, April 27-28

On the evening of Friday, April 27, we’ll be having our annual New Scout Campout. This is an opportunity for the boys to learn how campouts work, how to pitch a tent, how to use a stove, and lots of other basics that will come in handy later.

Scouts will meet at St. Brigid’s and hike out to Willard’s Woods, so comfortable shoes are an excellent idea. The boys will carry their own gear (clothes, sleeping bag, eating utensils, etc), but troop gear (tents, stoves, and so on) will magically appear at the campsite. Since it’s a fairly short walk and they don’t have to carry very much, elaborate backpacks aren’t really required — we’ve had boys do this trip using bookbags, rolling suitcases, and practically anything else.

The campout will end about 9 am on Saturday. For more details, contact Scoutmaster Hank Manz.

UPDATE: The information and permission sheet can be downloaded here. Please get it to Mr. Manz as soon as possible.

Parent social, April 26 (moved to May 3)

We’d like to encourage all Troop 160 parents — especially parents of new Scouts, but also more experienced ones — to hang around the April 26 Troop meeting. We’d like to take the opportunity to let parents meet each other and find out more about the Troop. We’ll be meeting in the corridor outside the meeting hall, and there will be coffee and snacks.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Scoutmaster, the Chairman, or even the Webmaster.

UPDATE: Due to the various missed meetings, the Parent Social has been moved to May 3.
