Info for Bicylist, Cooks and other Helpers …
Are you a Bicyclist?
Mike Ames will again lead a group of adventurous folks on a bike ride from St. Brigids to Camp Acton. Mike says:
Riders can carry as much personal gear as they like, with the rest getting sent up by car.
Adults can just show up at St. Brigid’s at 9:00 on Saturday.
Scouts who are interested should talk to me at the Troop meeting next Thursday November 1.
Last year we had about 7 adults ride out (most returned the same day), and 2 scouts who expressed interest but canceled at the last minute.
Cooks and other Helpers
Meg and Toby Bradley and Karen and Eric Muskavitch will lead the all-important pie baking.
We’ll need a couple more assistant chefs to help with easy items like mashed potatoes and squash — let me know if you’ll be at camp Saturday afternoon and can help out
Google Map Directions
The No-Brainer, Both-Hands-and-a-Flashlight Route (11.2 miles from Hank’s house)
Route 2A to Route 2
Route 2 to the prison traffic circle
Take the second exit from the circle-the one that puts the prison farm on your right
Go 1.0 miles to Pope Road-this will be just past the prison fence and just after you enter Acton
Right on Pope Road (this is Acton, but it will turn into Concord eventually)
Follow Pope Road 2.1 miles to just past 382 Pope Road.
The entrance to Camp Acton is on your left just after the 382 mailbox on your right and a very short distance before Spencer Brook Road on your right. The left turn into the access road is just before a very large spread with big white fences on the left.
The Slightly Shorter, Slightly More Difficult Route (8.9 miles from Hank’s house)
Get to Concord by your favorite route
As you approach the Colonial Inn, pass on the left side to pick up Lowell Road
Go 2.7 miles to Westford Road-just after the Children’s Meeting House on your left.
Left on Westford Road
Go 0.8 miles to intersection with Spencer Brook Road and then bear left. Your will now be on Spencer Brook Road although it will seem like you are remaining on Westford. If you miss it, there will be an intersection with Pope in a mile or so at a sort of odd triangular intersection.
Go 0.4 miles to Pope Road-you will be looking at a large white fence in front of you across Pope Road.
Left on Pope and look for the right into the Camp Acton road almost immediately. It is before the 382 mailbox on the left and just after the end of the large white fence of the massive spread on your right.
Notes:
· Camp Acton is very close to the borders of Concord, Acton, and Carlisle.
· The entrance road is very narrow and very hard to spot even in the daytime. We will place a lantern back from the road at night and we will have a scout sign out by the road during the day.
