Bandstand holiday lighting

Troop 160 started a tradition a few years ago. For a variety of reasons we started lighting the bandstand in Hasting Park, across from the Hayden Ice Centre, for most of December. If you haven’t seen it before I can tell you it looks really neat all lighted up. Many societies have a tradition which both welcomes winter and, at the same time, seeks to chase away the darkness. This is ours.

This is another one of those things that tells the Town that Scouting is alive and well in Lexington. Every year we receive many compliments.

We used to make it coincide with start of the holiday lighting in the Center, but we found that then we had to leave it dark for up to 6 days because we do the work on the weekend, but the lights in the center aren’t turned on officially until a Friday night. That dark period invited vandalism and one year we had to replace around 75% of the light strings.

So even though the lights will be turned on officially this Friday, those who want to help should gather this coming Saturday morning starting at 8:45 AM. I will bring a couple of staplers and two stepladders plus the light strings, timers, and extension cords. We could probably use one more stepladder and maybe a couple of staplers.

It shouldn’t take us more than two hours to finish the job. As always, this is a volunteer effort, but you will receive either Scout or LHS service hour credit for it.
