Initial head count for June cycling trip

Troop 160,

COULD ANY SCOUTS OR ADULTS INTERESTED IN A CYCLING TRIP THE WEEKEND OF JUNE 14-15, PLEASE LET ME KNOW AS SOON AS YOU REASONABLY CAN.

I’m coordinating the cycling trip for the weekend of June 14/15. My first two options for camping on Cape Cod will not be available: the Greenough Scout Reservation in Yarmouthport is fully booked that weekend for an Order of the Arrow Conclave, and Nickerson State Park in Brewster is partially re-opening that weekend after a major renovation (there are no group sites until later in the summer).

The current plan is to go to Camp Richard (a Boy Scout camp) on Nantucket. This destination will require a little more planning and be more expensive because we will (obviously) need to take the ferry over. One option for getting there used by a nearby Troop and mentioned on the Camp Richard web site is to rent a large (18 foot) box van to transport all the gear and bikes, and then to have the scouts and adults travel on the ferry as walk-on passengers. I have been told that Troop 160 went to Nantucket several years ago, so if any scouts or adults can remember how this worked or have any suggestions, please let me know (I’ve never been to Nantucket).

Once I have an initial number I’ll start making reservations.

Yours in Scouting (and cycling),
