Odds and ends

First, to all who participated in the Memorial Day parade, Thank you. The Town appreciates it greatly. I know not a lot of publicity was given to it in the media this year, something we are addressing with the Celebrations Committee.

Second, we have signed up for a service project. Yes, you can get hours for it, but there is more of a point to it than that. We will be placing a serpentine bike rack at Hastings School. This is a pretty easy project. Dig a couple of pretty deep postholes, dump in gravel, dump in sand, put the bike rack in place, then mix and pour concrete. The postholes have to be pretty deep–around 3′–so it will take a little effort.

I do need at least one person experienced with mixing concrete and pouring it. I have a posthole digger although having another would be helpful so we could dig two at a time.

Help from 119 would be greatly appreciated. This should be a joint project since it will attract attention.

I am thinking of doing it next weekend on either Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Let me know if you can give an hour or two to this project.

Nantucket trip info and permission slip

Troop 160,

Attached is an information sheet and permission slip for our June
14-15 Nantucket camping and cycling trip.
Scouts interested in coming please get the permission slip to me by
the Troop meeting May 29.
Adults interested in coming please send me an e-mail before May 29.
Because the Boston Minuteman Council now wants trip permits submitted
at least 10 days prior to the trip,
it would be very helpful to get the permission slips to me on time.

See me this Thursday night (May 22) with any questions.

Yours in Scouting,
Mike Ames

P.S. I need an adult volunteer to be the assistant coordinator.

Lost and Found

Three jackets were left at the meeting this last Thursday. For the past three months there has been a lost-and-found box just outside the Scout Room with the computer. Walk downstairs. Go through the double doors into the unfinished area. Walk to the first Scout Room. The box is to the left of the door. In this case I laid the jackets on top of the box instead of putting them inside. During the day the door to RFK is usually open, but getting through the downstairs double door may be tough. If you can’t find a custodian, call me at 617-620-5011 so we can arrange a time to retrieve lost items.

Events This Weekend

Sunday 3 PM St Brigids Tom Hatvany’s Eagle ceremony

Monday 9:45 AM Memorial Day parade

Advancement

If you went to Camp Bell or Hidden Valley last summer and if you took part in the First Year program at either camp (Curlews at Camp Bell) and if you are not yet First Class, then I would like to talk to you about signing off some of the requirements I know you did at camp. If you can make it, come early to the meeting next week. I will be there starting at 6:30 PM.
