Troop 160 Camporee Sept 19-12 due This Thrusday

Hi all,

Thursday is the big day.  The camp sheets are due to me so I can tell
the folks who run the thing how many people we will be having.  So
please ask you son to give his completed form to me so I know he is
going.  To make it easy, I am attaching the form.

I have gotten some questions so here are the questions (FAQ’s) and
answers:

Note: If you scout does not have some camping gear, that should not stop
him from going on the trip.  Many people have stuff to loan out and also
scouts can share.

1) Q: What should my scout bring?  A:  The scouts will be going over
what to bring on a backpacking trip in the troop meetings before the
camporee.  The scouts will also get a packing list.  I will make sure
that a list gets emailed out no latter than after next weeks meeting
(Sept 11)

2) Q: Regarding single-burner stoves:  how many do we need to bring?
One per scout?  One per 3 or 4 scouts?  One per patrol (from our
troop)?  How exactly will they be used during the event?
A: The patrols will be cooking their meals on the stoves so we will
likely need 1 or 2 per patrol.  If you have a stove that can be loaned
to a patrol, please email me.  Also please plan on bringing it to the
next weeks troop meeting (Sept 11) so we can verify it works and train
others.  If you do not have a stove, don’t worry we will get enough.

3) Q: There was some uncertainty about whether this would be like a
“real” backpacking trip, or whether boys would be making multiple trips
in from the parking area.
A: This is a backpacking-oriented trip and boys should plan on
packing all their gear in their pack.  It will be only about a half mile
and fairly flat.  This is very minimal and would be a good warm-up for
the White Mountians group that wants to backpack in.  Again this is a
SMALL part of the weekend and should not be a showstopper.  If you do
not have a back pack, or have an extra, please email me.  You DO NOT
have to buy a backpack.  The troop has some and T119 has a bunch I will
check into borrowing.

4)  Q Does this mean no patrol boxes for the event  A: Yep!

5) Q: will water be available at the actual camp site or will it need to
be carried in?  A: This is over my pay grade and I will have to find the
answer.

*********  Please have your scout go on this trip.  It will be a lot of
fun.  It is two night and the kids will have a blast!!!

********  Please email me if you have / need stoves, light tents, or
backpacks

Hope to see everyone Thursday.
