Hi Scouts and Families–

Just a reminder about the Winter Campout coming up at Windblown Cross Country Ski Area,   Saturday January 17th-18th  (MLK weekend).
Remember to bring your forms and check for the trip to THIS WEEK’s meeting ( check made out to Troop 160 for $16/scout).

Extra forms will be available at the meeting on Thursday.

Any questions, call Meg.

Lighting the bandstand

From Scoutmaster Hank Manz:

Thanks to the energetic crew of Scouts and adults who showed up, the bandstand is now lighted.  I stopped by tonight–it looks good!  The tree needs a little work.  It is supposed to have larger lights and it will eventually have them, but an unfortunate accident caused the loss of the lights for that string so we will have to wait for replacements.  I expect them by next weekend.

The estimate of the number of strings needed was pretty close.  We said 29.  In fact, it took 27 which is why we had extra strings to temporarily use on the tree.

Thanks also to the generous donors who made it possible to do it this year so we didn’t have to wait a year.

One thing I forgot to do was to make a list of the volunteers who were there today.  So if you were there, send me a quick list of those you know were there.  Just send it to me–there is no need to send it to the whole list.  Send it to me by email.

And thanks again for the work today!

Lighting up the Hastings Park bandstand and other service hour opportunities

The new LED lights for the Hastings Park bandstand arrived on my doorstep a few minutes ago.  I will be at the bandstand bright and early next Saturday morning starting at 8:00 AM.  Feel free to join me.  There will be service hours, of course, since this is a project for the town.  I am guessing that we can knock this one out in two hours given our level of experience.

I will have two ladders on hand along with three staplers.  I will also supply the extension cords and timers.

I think the work should be easier this year because the LED lights are less prone to breakage and the bulbs don’t stick out as far so they should be a lot easier to string.

BTW–I strongly suspect that cocoa and doughnuts will be available.

============================================

Other service hour opportunities are available.  In fact, there are so many that I am going to create a special place on the Web site for them.  Two I know about are:

- Helping Mrs. Litchfield (she was an ASM with Troop 160 and her son is a Troop 160 Eagle) move 50 cartons of books from Bridge School to another place in town.  Best time for the move is still unknown.

- Sweeping the Lincoln Park-to-Worthen Road boardwalks of dead leaves before the first big snow falls.  That could happen anytime and would even be a good patrol activity.
