Remember that we always need a Scout from Troop 160 in uniform to help with opening ceremonies on the Battle Green on Patriots’ Day. That Scout will join brother and sister Scouts in that effort. This will be after the Youth Parade which will end at the Green at roughly 8 AM on Monday.
But here’s a really neat one. This year on Saturday (note that it will happen on SATURDAY, not Monday) there will be a reenactment of the Battle of Tower Park. This engagement was a big one. We have been asked to police the battlefield after the battle. The battle will start around 4 PM and will be over by 5 PM. After that we will form a police line and pick up any stray material. Most of the material will be wadding and torn ends from the blank cartridge used by the two armies. This will NOT be the cartridges, but only the leftover paper. The only hard part will be in getting there–Mass Ave may be closed. If you want to help, why not just come for the battle and then stay half an hour or so to help with the cleanup? Yes, I will give you extra credit for having to walk.
Wear a Scout shirt so you can be easily identified and send me an e-mail so I will know whether to panic about the numbers or not. I will supply the necessary trash
bags. Tools should not be needed.
Troop 119 is of course invited to share in this service opportunity.
