Troop 160,
It’s time for our second annual June bike to the beach trip. This year we will be going to Scout Camp Greenough in Yarmouthport on Cape Cod. The plan is to drive to the camp Friday evening, cycle to the beach on Saturday, maybe have a short, early ride on Sunday morning, and to return to Lexington on Sunday afternoon. We may split into two cycling groups on Saturday depending on the range of cycling abilities and desires (riding vs. swimming) of the scouts and adults on the trip. The shortest ride to the ocean is about 4 miles each way, the longest reasonable ride is about 20 miles each way.
The bike trails on Cape Cod are extensive, and we will try to ride on the least busy roads possible, but I expect that we will need to ride on roadways to get to the trails. Scouts and adults should be comfortable riding on public roads. There will be a bicycle and rider safety check the weekend before the trip.
I’ve attached an information sheet with permission slip to this e-mail. If you’re at all interested in going on this trip send me a quick e-mail reply (do not reply to all), and then get me a signed permission slip at the June 11th Troop meeting.
ADULTS:
To make this trip happen I will need an assistant trip leader, an adult grub master (food coordinator), and few more adults who can drive to the Cape and ride with the scouts (I’ll need at least other one adult who can comfortably ride on the longer route). If you can drive, let me know how many scouts and bikes you can transport. There is the possibility that we can get a cargo van or box truck to transport the bikes, but I want a bike count for personal cars/trucks in case we don’t.
Yours in Scouting,
Mike (always a good day to ride) Ames
