A couple of quick meetings

I would like to have a couple of meetings of Scouts.  The first is a meeting for anybody who can come.  We need to do some cleanup in the basement so can pack for camp and so we can put away all the stuff that is just lying around.

So if you are free this Thursday, come on down from 7-8 PM and give me a hand.  Bike trip participants are especially welcome because we need to fold the tents they used on the very last event of the season.

Don’t bother with your Class A shirt.  Toss on a Class B and wear old clothes.

And then the next Thursday, just before camp, I would really like to see all of the PLs and APLs plus the SPLs and adult leaders so we can quickly go over what we are going to be doing at camp.  Again, 7-8 PM works for me.

So:

This Thursday   July 30th 7-8 PM   Any Scouts who are around

Next Thursday  Aug 6th  7-8 PM   PLs, APLs, SPLs, and ASMs who are going to camp

I know we won’t get all of you, but maybe we can get enough to be able to avoid a few of the historic glitches.  And if parents have ANY questions about camp, come on down and ask them either night.

National Guard sendoff on the Battle Green at 11 AM Sunday 7/26/2009

Sorry for the late notice, but in case you are around …

The National Guard MP unit based in Lexington is deploying to Iraq.  There will be a public sendoff for the unit on the Battle Green today (Sunday) starting at 11 AM and lasting about an hour.  Should Scouts wish to show up in uniform, they will get service hours for doing so.

As some of you know, Zach Griffiths, 160 Eagle, former SPL, and a graduate of West Point, is serving in Afghanistan.

Troop 160′s newest Eagle

Please join me in congratulating Jeff Gilbert who passed his Eagle Board of Review this evening.  His presentation was superb!

Jeff’s brother, Greg, is a 160 Eagle.  His father, Paul, is also an Eagle.

As a two-term SPL, Jeff knows all about having to deal with a large crop of younger Scouts without a large group of Scouts his own age to lend a hand.  At a time when we really needed Scout leadership, I was lucky enough to have a series of really good SPLs.  Jeff richly deserves his Eagle and I was pleased to be able to be there tonight.

Camp Bell Cookbook

A copy of Camp Bell Cookbook is now available on the resource page under the summer camp section of troop Web site.

The cookbook was a joint project of Troop 160 and Chris Soule, one of the Key 3 at Camp Bell.  We are going to be testing just how much help it can be while we are at Bell this summer.  We had been toying with making it into a real project until last summer when the two teams produced two somewhat different cookbooks which were combined into one opus over the winter.

It suffers from not having enough pictures, but we hope to address that lack in our next edition.
