Bandstand lighting

Sorry for this very late notice, but I just got in from western Mass and looked at a weather report.

Given the almost 100% chance of rain on Saturday along with wind gusts, I am putting off the bandstand lighting until Sunday.  No sense in getting hurt when time is not critical … or even if it was critical.

Scout things to do this Saturday Nov 28th and beyond

Just as a quick recap of Scouting events this coming Saturday which are yours to enjoy if you care to:

8:00 AM  Bandstand lighting.  This should not take too many Scouts
and shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours–probably
an hour if we hustle.

2:00 PM  Eagle Court of Honor for Jeff Gilbert at St Brigid.  Eagle
is a big deal so come on down and participate.

4:00 PM  Eagle Court of Honor for Curtis Reti at Hancock.  Curtis is
a Troop 119 Scout.

I know this is already a busy four days, but if you have time, take in at least one of those Eagle COHs.

By the way–in a newer tradition, the Selectmen and Troop 160 have combined to serve hot cocoa at the Holiday Lighting event at Depot Square and the caroling at the Hasting Park bandstand.  If any Scouts can help out, let me know.

Holiday Lighting at Depot Square  Friday, Dec 4th  5 PM-7 PM PM roughly

Caroling at Hastings Park        Thursday, Dec 24th  4:30-5:30 PM

Service hours for helping with the hot cocoa will be given, of course.

Art Merit Badge, Saturday, December 5th

Merit Badge Counselors are continuing to work with a group of scouts for their First Aid Merit Badge and another group of scouts for their Personal Management Merit Badge.   By all accounts, both of these programs have been progressing very well.

We have another Counselor, Julie Palmer, who has offered to instruct a small group of scouts for the Art Merit Badge. This will be a one day program (actually 2 hours or so) where a scout can complete all of the requirements for this merit badge.   Ms. Palmer will run this class on Saturday, December 5th at the church hall from 10:00 am- 12:00 noon.

I will have a sign-up sheet on Thursday, December 3rd (the next troop meeting).  We will have to limit the size of this class (probably no more than 8 scouts); therefore, I am also looking to see if I can arrange for another merit badge to offer on the same day and time.   If you are interested in the Art merit badge, then please sign up on 12/3.

I will let everyone know if I am able to identify another merit badge program for that day.  Stay tuned……..

Lighting of the Hastings Park bandstand, Friday 11/27

This one almost slipped by me …

As many of you know, Troop 160 has been doing the holiday lighting at the bandstand for a number of years.  Last year, with the generous help of friends of the troop, we switched to LED lights which were easier to string and required a lot less attention during the month they were up.

The lights go on in the Center starting this Friday, but we are always a day behind because we have found that there is less vandalism if we put them up and then light them that night.

So Saturday, if you can make it, come on down to the bandstand in Hastings Park to help string lights.  I am sure somebody will stop at Dunkin’ Donuts for something with sugar on it and I am also sure that there will be a Cambro of hot cocoa to boot.  Dress warmly.  I have a couple of ladders and a couple of commercial staplers although we try to use a minimum of staples.  Typically it takes us no more than a couple of hours to do the work. We will start work at 8 AM this coming Saturday.  I expect to be through not later than 10 AM.
