A Scout is Helpful

This is an unusual note, I know.  But it does fit in with a bunch of Scout Laws besides Helpful.

A few weeks ago, a bronze plaque which marked the site of the Old Belfry disappeared from the Battle Green.  There is a chance it was taken as a prank and then dropped somewhere in town.  With the snow melting, there is a chance it will show up.

Scouts tend to see things others do not.  So be on the lookout for that plaque.  If you spot it or if you hear anything about its whereabouts, let me know.

You will recognize it immediately by the picture and inscription on it.

Lost & Found from the trip ending Sunday 1/24/2010

Lost and Found
==============

Decathlon Quechua black polypro top Medium
Black snow pants Youth XL
3 pairs assorted gloves

Red stainless steel water bottle
Blue stainless steel water bottle w/green top.  Peace symbols on it.
Blue large Nalgene (J. Foley)
Blue flexible bowl (Liam???)
Fork

Kelty stuff bag for sleeping bag
Black sled

I note that one pair of fleece gloves is rough and there are other signs of melting as well.  As we have talked about, fleece and most other modern camping clothing is not fireproof.  Moreover, modern clothing often insulates so well that the fact that the outer surface is melting or on fire may not be immediately evident.  So watch it when you are close to the fire with your cool outdoor clothing on.  Don’t get so close that there is danger of injuring yourself.

Pancake Breakfast 2010: date and Co-manager

Happy New Year!

This is a first notice of the Pancake Breakfast (PB) 2010 on Patriots Day that will take place on April 19 this year.  Please reserve this date to help out for our only fund-raising event of the troop.

I am also looking for a Co-Manager to help me organize and manage this year’s PB event. If you have enjoyed working on PB last year or if you want to get involved with the troop (especially those with younger scouts), I am looking for you. No special skills are needed.  If interested or if you have questions, please send me a quick email.

Thanks,
Franco Wong

White water rafting flyer and permisshttp://www.troop160lexington.com/home/ion form

The white water rafting trip will not be until May, but as Hank mentioned at the troop meeting last Thursday, this trip requires a lot more advance planning than most.

Deposit payments and Permission Forms are due Thursday, Jan 28th
There are TWO forms – both need to be filled out for each person going on the trip (boys and adults).

Please read and complete the forms in full.  They are somewhat long because there is a lot of information I need to collect and double check for each person going on the trip.

I will have some paper copies of the forms at tomorrow’s troop meeting.  If you have any questions, you can catch me at the troop meeting tomorrow, call me this weekend, or send me an email.

Thanks.
