Three notes from the Scoutmaster
Three things–
1. I am missing some Crescent wrenches and a 5-lb deadblow hammer from Ray Stebbins’ Eagle project. I would appreciate it if everybody who helped on the project would check their toolboxes for extra tools. The deadblow hammer is the most important item. It is a heavy hammer with a cylindrical head and a long, straight handle. When you shake it, you will hear something inside the head moving. I really need that tool back because I use it a lot and I cannot easily replace it.
2. It would be nice if at least some of the Scouts from the Seabase Shakedown trip would get to the meeting tonight maybe half an hour early to pack the tents they used and to make sure the cooking equipment is clean. I also need to know what you guys did with the wooden hammer that was inside the rope bag. I cannot find it anywhere, we cannot replace it easily, and it is an important item because it is used to help pitch the dining flys.
3. The turnout for the twice-yearly book migration was awesome from both troops. The Friends of Cary Library thank you!

June bike riding trip on Cape Cod — first mailing
Troop 160 cyclists,
It’s time to roll out your trusty bike and hit the road. Our Spring cycling Campout on Cape Cod will be on Friday June 25 through Sunday June 27.
We will again be staying at Boy Scout Camp Greenough in Yarmouthport. We’ll camp Friday night, cycle and maybe swim on Saturday, camp Saturday night, and return on Sunday (maybe after an early morning ride). There are many riding options on both local roads and the Cape Cod Rail Trail; riding destinations and groups will be decided by the scouts who are coming. Last year we all rode to the beach in Dennis and swam in Cape Cod Bay.
There will be a pre-trip bike inspection and test ride to cover safe riding practices on June 19. If you cannot attend the checkup, let me know soon so I can arrange another pre-trip event (or issue a personal waiver).
If you would like to come, please send me an e-mail reply (don’t ‘Reply All’) soon. Then, return the permission slip by June 17 (or earlier).
Parents:
We need to tranport a lot of bicycles for this trip, so if you have a car with a bike rack it would be very helpful if you could come along. Our departure time on Friday is still to be determined. Last year we left in the afternoon to avoid the weekend Cape traffic and arrived in camp pretty early. Please let me know soon if you are coming so that I can prepare a Tour Permit Application.
The information sheet/permission slip is attached.
See you on the road.
Yours in Scouting,
– Michael Ames
