Rafting photos 5-22-2010

Hi, Parents,

Below are links to photos of our recent rafting trip in Maine taken by the North Country Rivers company. There are 6 photos per raft for Kennebec, and 8 photos per raft for Dead.  Since we own them, you can download any one of them (or all, if you like) for your personal use.  To cover the cost of $225, I would like to ask you to contribute $5 per person for the 45 participants (scouts and parents).  You can give it to me on Thurs at the troop meeting.  If for some reasons that you don’t like the pictures and would not like to contribute to its cost, that’s fine, but please send me an email to let me know.  Enjoy the pictures (captioned according to names of raft guides).

Environmental Science Merit Badge

THIS EMAIL IS FOR THOSE SCOUTS WHO HAVE BEEN ENROLLED IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE MERIT BADGE WITH MR. ABEGG:

Mr. Abegg will be at the troop meeting this Thursday to review those scouts progress/requirements toward their Environmental Science Merit Badge.  This will be the LAST session and opportunity for you to complete your requirements.  At last review, there were several scouts who were nearly finished and will only need a few minutes with Mr. Abegg assuming you completed your assignments, while a few others had quite a bit more work to do and should plan to spend sufficient time with Mr. Abegg to review your work (observations, photographs, maps, etc.).   If you wish to complete the ES Merit Badge, you should have everything finished and ready to present to Mr. Abegg on Thursday.

Orienteering for Scouts needing First Class requirement 2

Troop 160,

I will be running a short course in orienteering to help scouts complete their first class requirements before the next Court of Honor.
The event will be held at the Old Res on Saturday June 5 starting at 9:00 AM.  After some instruction and training, scouts will complete a 1+ mile orienteering course in groups or 4-6 with me shadowing and answering questions.  Depending on how many scouts attend, there will either be one or two sessions.  Last Fall there were 2 sessions that lasted 1-1/2 to 2 hours each.

The event will complete First Class requirement #2:
Using a map and compass, complete an orienteering course that covers at least one mile and requires measuring the height and/or width of designated items (tree, tower, canyon, ditch, etc.)

If you are a scout who has completed your Second Class requirements and can attend on June 5, please send me and Mr. Gambone an e-mail (do not reply to all), or see me at the May 27 or June 3 Troop meeting (earlier is better).

ADULTS:
For this to happen I’ll need at least one other adult to attend.  Please let me know if you can help out.

Yours in Scouting,

Mike Ames
