Wreath sales from Troop 119

For those of you who need wreaths for this holiday season, Wreath Elves from Troop 119 will be at our meeting to sell you freshly made, first-quality, wreaths right off the truck from the supplier.  The price is $15 each.

We don’t normally use the list for sales information, but this is the big fundraiser for Troop 119, just as the Pancake Breakfast is for us.

I am hoping they will be there at the end of the meeting.

Outcome of two service projects this weekend

Thanks to all the Scouts and adults who helped with the two service projects this weekend.  The crew size was perfect although the bandstand project turned out to be a 50 Munchkin effort.

I drove by the bandstand last night and it looked great!  I will adjust the timers tonight so they all turn off together.  They turn on when it is still light so a little difference in when the three sections come on is not noticed, but it is nice to have them all turn off at roughly the same time.

The stable assembly project for our sponsor was partly detective work and partly lift-and-carry.  A few minutes ago I checked the level of the finished project with the correct tool and the floor was pretty close.  Nice eye, team!  There is one little remaining problem that we will work on when we disassemble the structure.

Service projects — Note change of plans for bandstand to Friday

After Thanksgiving we will be stringing lights on the bandstand in Hastings Park and doing a service project for our sponsor which will be putting up the stable part of the creche in front of St Brigid.

Because of other things going on Saturday afternoon, I would like to start the bandstand Friday afternoon, weather permitting.  Moreover, that would allow the lights to go on Friday with the rest of the Center lights.  I do not need a large crew, but some adults to go along with the Scouts would be a huge help.  The best time to start would be 1:30 PM with the expectation we would be done by 3:30 PM.  Come when you can.

I will bring two ladders and the lights to Hastings Park as well as a couple of staplers.  We can probably use a third stepladder and maybe another stapler.  There is a tree in the decoration plan as well, but it is not clear if it will be available by then.

Then on Saturday, starting at 8:00 AM, I need at least a small crew for a sponsor project which is putting up the stable part of the creche in front of St Brigid.  I expect that project to take no more than two hours.

For the stable all we will need in the way of tools is a battery powered screwdriver which I can supply.

The new Keilty Hall

When we meet again after Thanksgiving, if use of Keilty Hall permits, a tour of the newly renovated space where we hold our pancake breakfast will be arranged.  For anybody who works the Pancake Breakfast (and that is just about everybody) you are going to want to see what has been accomplished.

The work is almost finished, lacking only the completion of a handful of punch list items.

There is one small minus which is the loss of one warming oven, but there are so many plusses that we will simply plan around that.  The bathrooms, for instance, are–there is no other way to put it–AWESOME.  There is a new commercial refrigerator/freezer.  A new dishwasher with a four minute cycle.  New triple sink and a new second sink.  New hot drinks area.  And a totally new serving line which looks like it belongs in a hotel.

I know that some feared that we would lose seating with the new arrangement, but that is not so.  The minimum will be seats for 320.  Much of the wasted space is now gone.  And, of course, the hall is now fully accessible which means it will get a lot more use.

So stay tuned.  We will try to arrange a tour during the first meeting after Thanksgiving.  I think you will really like the space.
