Last Thursday, Eliot Wong sat before a Board of Review for advancement to Eagle. He impressed the Board as I had no doubt he would and is now an Eagle Scout.
Congratulations!

Good news: Rita Ross has volunteered to instruct the First Aid merit badge class. I will have sign-up sheets for each of these three merit badges at next Thursday’s troop meeting. All interested scouts should review the requirements for the merit badge of their choice and BE PREPARED by researching and completing any of those requirements that could be done in advance of the January 8th class. Each of these counselors will determine whether a second class or follow-up homework is required for scouts to complete their particular merit badge. Here they are:
Ms. Ross- First Aid
Mr. Ames- Nuclear Science
Mr. Gambone- Citizensip in the Nation
Have fun- YIS,
Mr. Gambone
We will NOT be holding a merit badge class this Saturday, December 4th. However, we are planning a class for Saturday, January 8th. I will have a more definitive announcement on what merit badges we will be offering, any pre-work that may be required, time to meet on Saturday January 8th, etc. by the next Troop meeting. I will have sign-up sheets next Thursday for all of the Merit Badge classes that will be offered on January 8th.
At this time- Mike Ames has offered to instruct the merit badge for Nuclear Science. I will instruct the merit badge for Citizenship in the Nation. I am hoping to find a counselor for First Aid. With this variety of classes, our intention is to interest and motivate new scouts who need to earn the important First Aid merit badge; middle age scouts who need to fulfill an Eagle required merit badge with Nation; and older scouts who want something new and interesting in Nuclear Science. More later…….

Here is a link to some pictures of the newly renovated Keilty Hall. Not shown are
the bathrooms which are now both spacious and modern. Also not shown is the new
entrance which includes elevator access to the hall. Having elevator access not
only benefits our patrons, but it means that the work associated with transporting
grills will be GREATLY reduced.

There was some fear that the addition of new bathrooms along with the creation of a
serving area would greatly reduce the space available, but it looks like all that
has happened is the reduction of previously wasted space along with the addition of
new facilities. The new, built-in, serving area will mean we can put more tables
along the side wall, for instance.
Within the next month we have to find a replacement coffee/hot water maker, test the
grills, and decide if we need a fourth grill to replace the one we will be missing
because of the change in stoves. We also have to work on a Plan B to get around the
fact that we are now down one oven. The old stove had two, but the new one has only
one.

Please see this flyer (PDF, DOC) for Hidden Valley Winter Overnight. This is a fun trip for all scouts. THINK SNOW!!!
We will be sleeping on tent platforms in tents. Outhouses are open for winter use. Grab your friends for a fun filled weekend.
Don’t let equipment or cost stop you–talk to me about equipment–the troop has some gear to lend. (And see here for lots of information on this website about winter camping and gear.)
Talk to George Kaplan for financial aid for this trip.
Make checks out to Troop 160 and return by 12-23-10.
