Sign up for Deep Freeze 2011

Troop 160 Scouts and Adults,

It’s the winter camping trip you’ve all been waiting for…the Deep Freeze — 2011 Edition!  Where else can you build and sleep in a quinzee, cook outdoors under 20 degrees, and see how maple syrup is made?  Not to mention the wonderful views and the magnificent stars!

Scouts: Challenge yourself during February vacation and brag about it for the rest of the year to your friends!
Parents: Please come to volunteer.  There’s a warm cabin to sleep in if you don’t want to sleep in a snow cave.

Please bring the signed form and payment to one of the next two troop meetings or mail it to 12 Manning Street , 02421-4346.
Questions?  Please feel free to contact your friendly trip coordinators (Thomas and Anthony’s parents).

Yours in Scouting,
Charlie & Arlene Marge

Winter Campout at Hidden Valley, Jan 22-23

Please see this flyer (PDF, DOC) for Hidden Valley Winter Overnight. This is a fun trip for all scouts. THINK SNOW!!!

We will be sleeping on tent platforms in tents. Outhouses are open for winter use. Grab your friends for a fun filled weekend.

Don’t let equipment or cost stop you–talk to me about equipment–the troop has some gear to lend. (And see here for lots of information on this website about winter camping and gear.)

Talk to George Kaplan for financial aid for this trip.

Make checks out to Troop 160 and return by 12-23-10.

Last Call for Cookeree

Hi Scouts and Adults of Troop 160,

This is the last call for people interested in attending the annual Cookeree at Camp Acton on Saturday November 13th.

If you haven’t already, please let me know by Tuesday November 2nd at 6:00 PM if you plan on attending. Please include the number of people in your party and the number of people that would be staying overnight.

All permission forms and checks are required to be completed and turned in at the Thursday November 4th Scout meeting.

If there are any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Another superb camping adventure

Four quick notes:

The Friday Hikers owe me a Firefly stove, one or two cooking pots, and the bag from the first stove which came back to me with the cook kit, but without the bag it went out in. Maybe the second stove is now in the bag? No hurry, but being the stuff back Thursday.

If an adult opens up the parish hall door at an odd time like after returning from a campout, then lock it immediately and open up the back doors into the basement. If the door is already open, fine, but if it is locked, then make sure it is locked as soon as you enter the hall so you don’t forget to do it.

It would be nice if White Mountain campers from this weekend came half an hour early to the next meeting to make sure cookware is clean and to roll tents. Much of the work of putting stuff away has already been done, but it would be nice to finish the job. The next meeting is a Court of Honor which is why you should come half an hour early.

Thanks to all the trip organizers for putting together a great trip, to the SPL and all the Scouts for doing a very good job all weekend, and to whoever ordered the weather for getting it just right. 30 degrees Saturday night, 35 degrees Sunday night, says my iButton. We should have taken a swim this morning, but as things worked out, the time was against us. The guys at the desk called me a few minutes ago to thank us for leaving such a clean campsite. Normally they have to clean it after each use. This time they didn’t have to do anything.
