Matagamon High Adventure trip, July-August 2010

In July 2010 6 Scouts and 3 Adults participated in a true wilderness experience in the Maine north woods. Based out of Matagamon High Adventure Base (near Patten, ME), the crew spent a week canoeing and sailing lakes, running rapids and portaging gear/canoes 5 times over difficult terrain.

Notes from the canoe trip

Got a call from Meg this afternoon.  She said they got to Perkins Island around 2:30 PM with no problems.  The Scouts made camp, ate their lunch, and were off fishing, exploring, and doing what Scouts do on trips.  The weather has been perfect.

The funny thing is that early reports this morning for Lexington were that we might pick up some heavy rain with wind gusts.  We started to get that, but then the weather cleared and it was a fine day.

Quite a change from our last canoe trip to Perkins when it poured all day and all night.  Everybody still had a good time, though … as we always do.

Memorial Day Weekend Canoe Camping Trip

A couple of notes on the upcoming Canoe Trip:

DEADLINE
Since we have limited canoe space for this trip, we’re putting a deadline of April 30 for receiving the permission slips and payment.  You may hand these to either myself or Meg Bonnell-Bradley at next Thursday’s troop meeting, or mail to me at: Rania Davis, 36 Williams Road, 02420

SWIM TEST
A possible swimming test may be offered on Fri evening May 1st, for those scouts who still need this – further info will be forthcoming…  Questions on this should be addressed to Meg.

SHAKEDOWN REMINDER
Please remember the shakedown on May 17th at 3 pm (most likely will run from 3-5 pm).  This is mandatory for canoe novices.  If you have a PFD (personal floatation device) please bring it along, but no need to go out and purchase one.

Any questions, please let either myself or Meg know.

Thanks,
Rania Davis (permission form collector)
Meg Bonnell-Bradley (Trip Coordinator)
