Winter Campout Warm-up

posted Jan 31, 2015, 3:22 PM by Matt Stevens
Our Winter Campout was held at Hidden Valley in the Griswald Scout Reservation in Gilmanton Ironworks, NH, with 18 scouts and 5 adults.

This is the same place we visit for summer camp, but no need for packing bathing suits for this trip…it was snowing upon arrival and throughout the day, making for terrific sledding conditions!  After enjoying some nicely made foil-pack dinners cooked by the scouts, everyone turned in for the night with the snow continuing to fall.  Sunny weather greeted the Scouts on Sunday morning, and the sled races continued until the minute of departure.  The only casualties to report were a few sleds that did not survive the downhill run.  Big thanks to Will Leavitt for organizing the trip, and to Ken Anderberg, Bob Atkins, Simon Hsu, and Malay Kundu for helping out as adult volunteers!  In all, a great experience, and just a “warm-up” for our next cold-weather adventure in February, the Deep Freeze!!!
